About Boswin Adventure Camp
Boswin offers various academic and sporting programs throughout the year, as well as unique summer camps for youth in Mississauga and Brampton throughout the summer weekdays.
Boswin is starting up a new overnight summer camp that is only 4 nights, 5 days in length. The camp will focus primarily on hiking and canoeing with trips to the beach, scavenger hunts, and fun nights gathered around the campfire. Everyone between the ages 8 and 15 years of age is welcome, and campers of any skill level or hiking and canoeing can sign up for the camp.
By the end of the week at camp, we hope that campers leave with a new appreciation for our environment, and with more advanced knowledge and skills in canoeing, hiking, and wilderness survival. Most importantly, campers leave with great memories and new friendships that blossomed during their time at Adventure Camp.
This year, we will be doing a trip to Earl Rowe provincial park with 10-15 campers, and a minimum of two staff to ensure that the ratio is 1:7 or less throughout the entire week. Week one of camp, we will be departing by 8am on Monday July 10, 2017. You may refer to further itinerary details in later pages.

About the Provincial Park
Earl Rowe Provincial Park is located about 80 kilometers north of Mississauga, and just south of Barrie, in the township of Tosorontio. It is just east of Shelburne. The drive to arrive to Earl Rowe Provincial park is about a 1hr 15 minute drive without traffic.
Address: 4998 Concession #7, Tosorontio Township, L9R 1W1
Phone: (705) 435-2498
Earl Rowe Provincial Park offers canoeing, fishing, biking, hiking, camping, swimming in an unsupervised lake, and swimming in a supervised pool. Within the park, there are six hiking trails that are either beginner or intermediate with scenic views and marked trails. There are two beaches located within the park, where the health ministry constantly monitors water qualities to ensure they are safe for swimming.
Furthermore, there are flush toilets and showers located throughout the park near campgrounds. In addition there is a park store and visitor center which hosts the natural heritage education program.
There will be cell phone reception in most of, if not all of Earl Rowe Provincial park, so staff will have a cell number available to stay in contact during the week at Adventure Camp.
What will we provide?
Meeting on Monday morning at the designated meeting place, we will provide a school bus to bring campers and staff to Earl Rowe Provincial Park. We ask that you pack a light snack for your child(ren) during the bus ride, as we will not be providing a snack on the way there. In addition, a lunch for the first day at camp will not be provided, so we ask to pack a lunch for your child to eat upon arriving to the provincial park. However, throughout rest of the excursion, we will provide various snacks between breakfast and lunch. Everyday on trip we will also make and provide a variety of backpacking breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and campfire treats. With that being said, there is no need to pack additional food in your child’s backpacks. This also would cause issues within our campground, as backpacks with clothes will be left unattended while we do daily excursions and activities.
With that being said, meal plan documents will be provided closer to the first day of camp, and will let you know what we will be eating every meal, snack, and dessert while at camp. This also gives you the opportunity to inform us if particular foods or meals are not compliant with your child. This means any allergies to foods, or any foods that your child does not eat due to religion. We would then alter our meal plan to ensure all campers are satisfied and can enjoy our lovely campfire meals.
In relation to gear while on trip, we will provide tents, separate tents for each gender, and another for staff. We will also have spare water, bug spray, sunscreen, and shampoo for campers who run out or forget to pack it while on trip. We ask that if you have a sleeping bag, thermarest/sleeping pad, and a day pack to bring it for the 5 days at camp. Do not worry if you do not have the specific gear, as we have extra gear that can be rented for the trip for a small fee. Please let us know in advance if your child(ren) require this gear. Otherwise, you may refer to our ultimate camper gear checklist to ensure that nothing is forgotten!
Overall, the cost for the camp covers your child’s 3 meals a day, plus snack and dessert everyday. Canoe, supervision, camping, and costs for other activities are already included. There are no additional fees required unless renting a sleeping bag, a sleeping pad, or a backpack.
Safety at Camp
As mentioned previously, to ensure the safety and well-being of campers we will have a maximum ratio of 1:8 during the 5 days of camp. This means that for every 8 campers we will have 1 staff member. For instance, if there are a total of 10 campers, the ratio would be 1:5. As safety is our main priority, we want to keep our ratio small.
There will be camp rules in place to ensure safety of all campers as well. Campers will need a buddy when going anywhere, and will need to tell the staff where they are going at all times. We will have walkie talkies among staff to communicate with one another, and staff will have a cellphone to reach in case of any emergency. Along with the designated meeting spot for the first day, cell phone numbers will be provided to parents if they need to reach out to camp staff or their children at all during the 5 days at camp.
Prior to the first day we will ask for all allergies and medical concerns of campers so that we are aware of them and can avoid any issues that can arise. In the ultimate camper gear checklist, we ask that those on any medication bring extra in case some spills/drops while on trip. Campers with an epi-pen, we ask to bring 2 epi-pens if possible, as we are isolated from EMTs, so in the case of needing to use an epi-pen, we would require a second dose usually in a wilderness setting.
Staff will have a standard first aid kit for small wounds, as well as a wilderness first responder kit, which is more advanced and very stocked with spare medications, burn, blister, and fracture kits and more. A staff member is certified in wilderness first response with Sirius Wilderness Medicine. Other staff are certified in standard first aid.
In the case that there is any emergency requiring medical attention, there is a hospital located less than 5km from the provincial park, which would be less than a 20 minute drive. The hospital is called Stevenson Memorial Hospital.
We will base travels in our discretion of the weather, and will still go out rain or shine for hikes, but with caution. Canoeing will be taken seriously too with extreme weather. Any big waves we may not canoe for the day, or wait until the waves subside. At all times in the canoe Boswin Adventure Camp staff will enforce rules that while out in the canoes that campers are always wearing their lifejackets.
In our registration package, we will have a photo release form for the campers. This will ensure that parents that are okay with it, will be giving Boswin permission to take and post the photos on social media (Facebook and website) for advertising purposes, as well as send them to their new camp friends. Staff will have a camera to capture your child’s favorite camp moments. All names and identities will stay anonymous on Boswin media. In the registration package you have the option to not give permission for photo release. You will also have the option to purchase a CD for 10$ with all the exciting moments at camp!
